WELCOME
to the Washington Wing Basic Aircrew School. This course is designed
to qualify you as a CAP Mission Observer. Civil Air Patrol Aircrew
in any Wing must have the same basic knowledge and skills to safely
and effectively perform their duties aboard CAP aircraft. As an
observer, you are vital to the mission aircrew program, success on a
mission in the future rests in your hands: it is a responsibility to
be taken seriously.

Observer. Aircrew School graduates are expected to be highly
proficient in all skills related to being an aerial observer.
Students will fly four sorties. The first will be a single target
ID sortie. The second will be a parallel line/creeping line sortie.
The third will be a night practice ELT sorties. The forth sortie
will be the culmination of their work and will consist of a checkride
to graduate the school.
NOTE: Students failing to complete any of the course completion requirements must attend a subsequent Basic Aircrew School in order to graduate. Students who cannot complete the course due to extenuating circumstances or emergencies may automatically re-enroll for a later class, however, there will be no credit given for partial completion.

This pre-course
workbook is a review of areas of knowledge that are critical to your
performance in the Aircrew School. Start as early as possible
and read carefully all the listed reference material before each section.
Answers should be clear, concise, and legible. NO credit will
be given for answers that cannot be read. Candidates must submit
a completed workbook upon reporting for the course to
participate.
