Friday Education and Training

WACON25 offers unique opportunities to complete key Civil Air Patrol training courses in just one day! Each course is designed to help members advance their professional development while gaining valuable leadership and specialty skills.

📌 Note: These classes will take place on Friday, April 4th, 2025. You can only be in ONE of these courses as they are all meant to take the entire day.
📌 Note: Registration is done through eServices / Regzone
📌 Note: The costs are in addition to the conference sessions to be held Saturday. The costs are simply to cover the costs of the food and space.

Here's an overview of the offerings:


Unit Commander's Course (UCC)

Complete Your Unit Commander's Course in a Day!

  • Description:
    The Unit Commander's Course (also known as the Squadron Commander's Course) is Civil Air Patrol’s primary course for new and aspiring unit or group commanders. This training will help you understand squadron, group, and wing operations and prepare you for leadership positions at any level.
  • Prerequisite: Completion of Level I.
  • Instructors: Lt Col Barry Corson, Lt Col Kelley Johnson, and subject matter experts.
  • Details:
    • Attend this full-day training and walk out with completion credit in eServices.
    • A buffet lunch is included with your registration.

📌 Note: This course is a must if you aspire to hold a leadership or staff position in the future!


Level III Moderated Modules

Achieve Level III Completion in a Day!

  • Description:
    This training covers the moderated modules of Level III, which is required to earn the Grover C. Loening Award. Members who have completed all other Level III requirements will leave WACON25 with a full completion.
  • Prerequisite: Completion of Level II, Part 2.
  • Recommendation: For the best experience, complete the online modules in Absorb before attending.
  • Instructors: Lt Col Barry Corson, Lt Col Kelley Johnson, and subject matter experts.
  • Details:
    • Includes a buffet lunch with your registration.
    • Requirements for Level III also include achieving a Senior Rating in a Specialty Track, service on staff, and more.

AE Technician in a Day

Earn Your Technician Rating in Aerospace Education!

  • Description:
    This course is designed for anyone in the AE Specialty Track without a Technician rating. Participants will cover key knowledge and program topics to check off their Professional Development tracking sheet.
  • Prerequisite: Membership in the AE Specialty Track.
  • Instructors: Maj. Allan Reitan (WAWG DAE) and Col. Nick Ham (PCR DCS AE).
  • Details:
    • For those with Technician or Senior ratings, this counts as attendance at a Wing or Region-level workshop for your next-tier accomplishments.

📌 Note: This course is essential for AE members aiming to enhance their expertise and progress in the specialty track.


Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC)

Prepare to Lead a Squadron’s Cadet Program!

  • Description:
    This course is designed for members preparing to serve as a squadron commander, deputy commander for cadets, or as veteran Cadet Programs Officers seeking a refresher. Participants will gain the skills and knowledge needed to effectively lead cadet programs at the local level.
  • Pre-Arrival Coursework:
    Complete one web module in Absorb: TLC Intermediate (search "TLC" in the Absorb search bar). Credit for completion cannot be given without completing the Absorb module prior to the course.
  • Prerequisite: TLC-Basic is NOT required to take this course.
  • Instructors: Lt Col Rob Siau.
  • Learning Goals:
    • Discuss how local leaders might serve cadets with special needs.
    • Describe methods for positive, indirect leadership.
    • Understand major national and wing activity programs.

📌 Who Should Attend?

  • Graduates of the TLC Basic Course (not required).
  • Adult volunteers preparing to serve as squadron commanders or deputy commanders for cadets.
  • Veteran Cadet Programs Officers seeking refresher training.
